Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Billing Clerk. The Medical Billing Clerk will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and submitting accurate medical claims to insurance companies and patients. This role ensures the financial health of the practice by maintaining precise billing records, following up on outstanding claims, and resolving billing discrepancies in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and submit insurance claims (electronically and/or by paper) for medical services provided.
Review and verify accuracy of patient billing data and ensure proper coding of diagnoses and procedures.
Post payments and adjustments to patient accounts.
Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and initiate appeals when necessary.
Communicate with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers to resolve billing issues.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance regulations, billing policies, and HIPAA compliance.
Generate and send patient statements and manage payment plans if applicable.
Perform audits and ensure proper documentation for all billing activities.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; certification in medical billing or coding preferred.
2-3 years medical billing experience required
Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
Proficient in medical billing software and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
Effective communication skills for interacting with patients and insurance representatives.
