The purpose of this position is to read water meters to record consumption. This is accomplished by completing daily routes, reading meters, completing work orders, repairing meters and associated equipment, answering questions from customers, and maintaining meters and automated meter reading devices. Other duties include maintaining vehicles and tools; inspecting meters for water leaks; changing out meters; completing work orders; and assisting with water cutoffs and reconnects.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities - Conducts reading and re-reading of meters by operating handheld reading devices, exposing buried meters, accurately reading and recording usage, responding to requests to repeat readings, testing for leaks, explaining how to read meters, re-reading meters if needed, notifying customers of leaks, connecting and disconnecting meters, and downloading readings.
- Checks for addresses with zero consumption by testing meters, verifying readings, checking hoses, and changing meters, if required.
- Maintains meters and automated meter reading devices by replacing broken meters, repairing water leaks by meters, repairing or replacing broken meter parts, installing or repairing automated meter reading devices, and raising or lowering meter boxes.
- Monitorsconditionofmetersandconnectionsbyinspectingthemfordefects, damage, or unauthorized connections, reporting unusual readings or illegal use of water to the supervisor; and performing minor maintenance and repair, such as cleaning dials, changing out meters, disconnecting meters, raising meters, or sealing meters; and
- Perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications - High School diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in the installation, removal, calibration, repair, and testing of water meters and in the programming and troubleshooting of AMI equipment;
- Equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid Driver's License.

Deferred Compensation Plans- Mass Mutual/Empower Payroll deduction for employee participation. City does not contribute.
