Responsibilities

MAJOR DUTIES

Identifies and treats occupational injuries and illnesses, or provides for choice of private physician. Sees
injured patients as a priority, makes diagnoses and provides appropriate treatment or transfers patient to other
definitive health care facility, if necessary. Uses specialized medical or scientific training to recognize and exploit
new ideas in the approach to early diagnosis of work related conditions. Responsible for making proper disposition
of patients when cases warrant further specialized treatment. Provides first aid or palliative care for minor nonoccupational
disorders to enable the employee to complete the workday before seeing their private physician.

Accomplishes surveillance occupational physical examinations (pre-placement, periodic, termination, Fitness
for Duty, Temporary Duty (TDY), and Overseas Clearance) and makes appropriate recommendations from
findings. Appropriately reviews occupational health work place exposure data, such as noise dosimetry or air
sampling for chemicals, to ensure proper medical surveillance for such hazards. Interprets radiology,
electrocardiogram, pulmonary: function tests, and lab results that are performed in the evaluation, treatment, or
disposition of patients and appropriately explains results to patients.

Actively participates in the Medical Worksite Visit Program in order to identify, eliminate, or control health
and safety hazards. Answers supervisor/worker questions regarding exposure hazards as they may relate to health
concerns. Retrieves shop employee rosters as needed during site visits to expedite scheduling and accomplishment
of surveillance occupational examinations. Analyzes site visit results and makes recommendations to the
Occupational Health Working Group (OHWG), via the OMF Flight Commander, for appropriate medical
surveillance.

Conducts medical record reviews for quality assurance to standards of care of fellow healthcare providers.
Accomplishes medical record reviews and medical opinion letters for Workers Compensations claims and
Disability Retirement applications. Provides medical information within patient privacy limitations during Fitness
for Duty Panel Meetings to assist management with worker placement options.

Represents 72 OMRS/SGXO in a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Maintains a
professional liaison with other civilian and military activities on base to provide advice and exchange information on

occupational medicine matters. Consults and participates in squadron/group level meetings such as OHWG.
Advises legal office concerning medical determinations and may be called upon to provide a deposition and possibly
testify in court when necessary. Conducts epidemiological studies as requested by management officials.

Applies Air Force Medical Service (AFMS) Customer Satisfaction Priorities to make a positive impression
on OMF customers.


Reviews new and revised occupational health standards.

Develops and maintain a current and comprehensive knowledge of laws, Joint issuances, DoD policy issuances, DoD implementing guidance issuances, and DHA issuances related to military public health, and especially OEH. Helps inform and educate the DoD military public health/OEH communities about Joint and DoD plans, concepts, strategies, policies and implementing guidance for military public health/OEH missions.

Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure synergy of effort and positive teamwork and teambuilding strategies and demonstrates the ability to establish positive professional relationships with those individuals and offices that serve as stakeholders for OEH matters. Demonstrates initiative and ability to analyze organizational and operational problems and develop solutions. Must have strong professional writing and speaking ability and exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills across multiple stakeholders. Serves as a role model in upholding OEH laws, policies, and procedures

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

US Citizenship required

Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).

This position requires at least 1 year of licensed experience after completion of a medical internship. The internship must be approved by the Accredidation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Completion of a residency program in occupational medicine is desirable, but not essential, provided the candidate has progressive experience equivalent in breadth and intensity.


Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Residency Training: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Preventive, Aerospace or Occupational Medicine) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.
