Definition of Classification:

The Social Media Manager is responsible for building and maintaining the University of Redlands brand in the digital space by driving exposure, influence, and engagement in all forms of social media. They will drive the planning and execution of the University's social media strategy while collaborating with content creators across the College of Arts & Sciences and Schools of Business and Education, Graduate School of Theology, and the School of Continuing Studies.

The Social Media Manager should be collaborative, creative, data-driven, and highly organized, with a strong understanding of all existing and emerging social platforms and current trends. Additionally, the ideal candidate should be proactive, a strong team player, and possess excellent communication skills.

This position requires flexibility to work outside normal business hours including evening, and weekend hours as well as the ability to travel, as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manages day-to-day activity of U of R's social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube; identifies additional opportunities through TikTok, Reddit, and others.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for the University's social media channels, navigating feedback and collaborating on a variety of initiatives; ensure that social media partners across campus understand key aspects of U of R's social presence, brand voice, best practices, and social media policy and guidelines.
  • Creates content both organic and paid across all University social channels; regularly assess content performance and adjust strategy accordingly.
  • Partners with social media leads across campus to share best practices, coordinate content strategies, and engage in ongoing social media training.
  • Supports the alignment of paid social, including development of a plan, utilizing metrics and analytics to make informed decisions.
  • Institute the University's social media policy and guidelines among content creators across campus; audit existing U of R social accounts, delete inactive accounts, and encourage a less is more approach to allow the University to leverage larger accounts for future posting.
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills to interpret data and manage social media reporting.
  • Skill in supervising student employees, including hiring, orienting, training, organizing workflow, monitoring, and evaluating performance, and coaching and counseling when necessary.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualification Guidelines

Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of and fluency across all popular social media channels, including but not limited to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok.
  • Ability to work across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong writing capabilities, understanding how to write specifically for each social media platform.
  • General knowledge of digital audio and video recording equipment, experience operating such equipment and experience with digital audio and video editing software.
  • Experience working cross-platform between Mac and PC environments; working knowledge of social media file conversion and specs/ratios.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that is subject to last-minute changes; organizational skills to manage multiple jobs simultaneously, all while working with fixed schedules and deadlines.
  • Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Experience/Training/Education:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, advertising, public relations, media studies, business, and/or related fields.
  • Minimum five (5) years of social media management experience with at least three (3) years in a leadership role with extensive knowledge of major social media networks, including their design, technology, functionality, and audience.
  • Experience with content management and scheduling platforms, i.e., Sprout Social and Hootsuite.
  • Proven experience in building social communities inclusive of large and diverse audiences.
  • Graphic design experience with Canva, Illustrator, Photoshop a plus.
  • A valid California Class C CA drivers' license with a good driving record is required. Note: Out-of-state licenses are valid until appointment. A valid California Class "C" driver's license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (in accordance with CA Vehicle Code 12505c).

Working Conditions:

Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort. This position requires flexibility to work outside normal business house including evening, and weekend hours as well as the ability to travel, as required.

HIRING RANGE: Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. The University of Redlands is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Hiring Range . Placement within the Hiring Range is determined by internal equity, and relevant qualifications.

PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMS: For certain positions typically in Public Safety, Facilities, Athletics and Information Technology Services departments, employment is contingent upon a candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.Public Safety Officers, in addition to a pre-employment physical exam, will also be required to pass a psychological evaluation.
